What We're Looking For

Smokey Point Community Church is located about 30 miles north of Seattle, WA in a town called Arlington, WA. The church is led by Senior Pastor Jim Johnson who has been the senior pastor for 20 years. They are affiliated with the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination. Attendance currently runs around 300 in person each week with another 100+ viewing online. Currently, the church offers two services: 9:00am and 10:45am Sunday morning. Sunday morning services are identical with a full worship team and live preaching of which they live-stream as well. 

Smokey Point Community Church is a multigenerational church, with a mission to, “Exalt God by following Jesus together as family, being transformed by His grace, engaging the broken with His love.” What we passionately envision is – A community set free! They have a huge heart for missions, their community, and investing in the next generation. They also host a campus of Reach Training Institute, which is a fully-accredited Christian College located on the SPCC Campus. This church is highly devoted to developing a culture throughout their church and community that plants deep roots in faith through discipleship. 

The church is seeking the right candidate to take over as the new Worship Pastor to lead and oversee their worship ministry. Below are the qualifications and responsibilities Froot Group and the church have identified for this role:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Worship Team

  • Recruit, audition, develop, and schedule worship and media team members.
  • Cultivate a Christ-centered community by providing spiritual care and encouragement to the team.
  • Communicate vision and purpose to team members.
  • Help support and develop the student ministries worship team and the next generation of worship leaders.

Weekend Services

  • Plan, organize and be an enthusiastic presence for leading worship for our weekend worship services.
  • Work closely with the preaching pastor to develop elements of the service that will flow into a cohesive message and response.
  • Exhort and encourage the church to be intentional worshippers.
  • Stay current with new song selections, technologies and worship expressions.
  • Schedule teams and distribute music using Planning Center.
  • Provide leadership for the band in rehearsals and services.
  • Oversee all visual elements of the service.
  • Plan and implement any special worship events or programs.

Creative Arts

  • Give leadership and oversight to creative arts ministries.
  • Develop a ministry plan to utilize creative expressions for learning and worship.
  • Meet regularly with team leaders.

Miscellaneous

  • Stay current with new song selections, technologies and worship expressions.
  • Develop and maintain ministry budgets.
  • Oversee maintenance and repairs of sound equipment.
  • Develop tools for and regularly evaluate the ministry’s effectiveness.
  • Faithfully attend staff meetings and functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must live a life that demonstrates an intimate and growing relationship with Christ.
  • Must meet the scriptural requirements for an Elder.
  • Must agree with the doctrine and policies of SPCC and the Christian & Ministry Alliance.
  • Must be committed to the vision and values of SPCC and its leadership.
  • Must have adequate training both to handle the Word skillfully and implement a relevant and effective ministry.
  • Must meet regularly with an accountability partner.
  • Must be committed to a lifetime of learning and growth.
  • Advanced level of vocal and musical competency
    • Able to play at least one instrument, preferably acoustic guitar or keys.
  • Education
    • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, though not required.
  • Experience
    • At least 3 years of full time worship leading experience previously at a church of similar size and style is ideal.
